From Norse God Wotan, to KGB official Molokov, Eddie Muliaumaseali'i has begun 2021 with genre defying crossover. A stalwart for the Melbourne Opera Company Eddie has been playing many roles since 2000 including Mephistopheles in Faust, The King in Lohengrin, Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, amongst his favourite roles.
For other companies Eddie has sung Crown and Porgy in Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, Zuniga in Carmen, Don Basilio in The Barber of Seville, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Sparafucile in Rigoletto. He has made a career of singing villains and Kings in opera that has taken him to sing in Austria, France, United Kingdom, the USA, China ,Samoa, New Zealand and Australia.
In 2014, Eddie was nominated for a Helpmann Award for his portrayal of Joe in Show Boat (The Production Company). Eddie has enjoyed a career that has spanned three decades and across genres in the arts . He played the role of Chief Bromden in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (Melbourne Theatre Company), Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm in A Little Night Music (Watch This theatre company). In February 2020 he made his debut as Wotan in Wagner's opera Das Rhinegold as part of The Ring Cycle.
In 1992 Eddie sang in the ensemble in Chess as part of touring company in New Zealand. The cast included Tommy Korberg and Murray Head who played in the original West End production. Eddie is looking forward to playing the role of Molokov because he was the understudy to this role on that same tour. Thus, StoreyBoard Entertainment’s production of Chess The Musical completes the circle for this opera/actor/singer bass.
